March 4 Meeting Recap

Dear Indivisible Sussex Friends,

Thank you so much for showing up and for believing that a better future is possible if we work together to make it so. We are grateful that you all took the time and energy to share your voices, ears, and special talents on Tuesday night. What an amazing community we are building together!

Have you read John Lewis’s last essay? It is a beautiful ode to activism and the power of what he called “the Beloved Community.” In it, he said, “Ordinary people with extraordinary vision can redeem the soul of America by getting in what I call good trouble, necessary trouble” (Read the whole essay here- Opinion | John Lewis: Together, You Can Redeem the Soul of Our Nation - The New York Times). This can serve as an inspiration to us as we move through March and navigate this challenging time.

We have clearly outgrown our space, again. You keep telling us that this is a good problem, and we believe you. We are working hard to find a more suitable location. We appreciate the suggestions we have received so far and look forward to more ideas, as well as your patience, as we work through this issue in real time. We apologize to those who wanted to join us but could not due to the library’s maximum capacity restrictions. We hope to see you at our next meeting on April 1 at 6 p.m.

We accomplished quite a lot during our last meeting. We flexed our collective civic muscles by working through plans in our small groups, receiving a crash course in Heylo, exploring new ideas in our big group, and writing 127 postcards. Our website now includes a section called “Advocacy Resources” where you can find information about how to take part in postcard campaigns to voters, as well as other useful materials.

A recap of the meeting can be found here, 3/4/25 Agenda. We will follow up with details regarding plans for action and will continue to provide you with information through Heylo, our website, and email. In the last segment of our meeting, we heard several great ideas and were made aware of many new resources. You can share these and other suggestions with the group through the Heylo app.

We are currently planning a large showing at next week’s Sussex County Commissioners Meeting on 3/12 at 6pm (Commissioner Meeting Room, Sussex County Administrative Center, 1 Spring Street, Newton). As we discussed on Tuesday night, here is a sign up sheet to give us an estimated number of attendees. Please add your name here, https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1SqKYRbdZs8ZTFuQVOKKD5EUo87OZihUgvRn9YqswRs4/edit?usp=sharing.

Thank you again–stay strong and unified!

In Solidarity,

Julie, Jessie, and Kory
